BLACK TEAS

A wonderful introduction to the wide range of black teas. Whether you're new to tea or have been drinking tea for years, sampler sets are perfect for expanding your knowledge and stepping outside of your comfort zone. Each sample makes about 8-10 cups of tea. Note: Assortments may vary depending on availability.

Basic Black Tea Sampler
Our black tea selections represent the best growing regions of China, India, and Sri Lanka.

ASSAM
Tea of the Month

Bold black tea from the Assam region of India. Assam tea is known for a deep, burgundy-red cup and pungent flavor. Our Assam Melody is perfect for tea drinkers who may be new to the powerful character of Assam. Rich aroma, more sweet starchy than malty, like roasted plantains. Rounded mouthfeel, malty without being overpowering. Slight notes of raisin. Brisk astringency and not extremely pungent.

BAI LIN GONGFU
Tea of the Month
One of the earliest (and best) Chinese black teas ever produced, this top grade tea has our friends and customers hooked. Its soft, tiny buds are covered in delicate, fuzzy orange hairs. As you pour the dark golden liquor, a moreish caramel fragrance is released, giving you a moment to anticipate the deep, smooth, sweet flavours to follow and the wonderful velvety mouthfeel.
CEYLON SONATA
Tea of the Month

Black tea from Sri Lanka. In colonial times, this island-nation was known as Ceylon. This name is still used to describe all teas grown here. Ceylon tea is bright and lively, with a wonderfully delicate flavor. Our 'Ceylon Sonata' is the finest grade tea from the renowned Kenilworth estate, located in Sri Lanka's Kandy region. The perfect afternoon tea.

DARJELLING
Tea of the Month
Black tea from the Darjeeling region of India. Darjeeling tea is treasured for the rich golden liquor and unique muscatel flavor. This tea scores high on both counts. Our 'Darjeeling Rhapsody no. 22' is a superb second-flush (summer) tea from the highly regarded Risheehat estate. An excellent introduction to this wonderful variety.
EARL GREY BRAVO
Tea of the Month
Premium black tea from Sri Lanka, flavored with oil of bergamot, a citrus fruit. According to legend, this tea is named for Earl Grey, a British Prime Minister, to whom a Chinese noble entrusted its secret recipe for saving his life. Unfortunately, this story is not true. The perfect afternoon tea.
EARL GREY MOONLIGHT
Tea of the Month
By popular demand, we have finally added an Earl Grey 'cream' blend. Comforting flavors of vanilla and cream combine to soften the citrus notes of traditional Earl Grey. Your taste buds will swoon at first sip of our Earl Grey Moonlight.
GOLDEN MONKEY
Tea of the Month
Black tea from the Fujian province of China. Golden Monkey tea is hand-processed each spring with a careful plucking of only one leaf and one bud. It is among the finest Chinese black teas available today. The name comes from its unique appearance: the leaves resemble monkey claws. If you enjoy full-bodied teas with an abundance of flavor, we urge you to give this tea a try.
ENGLISH BREAKFAST
Tea of the Month
The original, classic cup of English Breakfast was made with black Keemun tea from Anhui province in China. Made from fine quality Keemun, prized for its rich, slightly smoky flavor and perfectly 'on point' astringency. Balanced, very honeyed aroma. May be enjoyed plain or with a drop of milk.
CANADIAN BREAKFAST
Tea of the Month
Malty and full-bodied with hints of floral flavor and a touch of oakiness. Bright golden cup. A superb tea to savor any time of the day.
IRISH BREAKFAST
Tea of the Month
Our new combination of black teas from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Assam (India). As its name implies, Irish Breakfast tea is an ideal accompaniment to a morning meal. It smoothly blends the high notes of a high-grown Ceylon with the malty underscore of a hearty Assam. May be enjoyed plain or with a drop of milk. One of our most popular teas. The perfect afternoon tea.
SCOTTISH BREAKFAST
Tea of the Month
This blend combines hearty India teas with the pungent smokiness of Lapsang Souchong to create the traditional Scottish drink... besides whiskey...
KEEMUN CONCERTO
Tea of the Month
Black tea from the Anhui region of China. Perhaps the most famous of Chinese varieties, prized for its rich smoky flavor, and sumptuous aroma. Our 'Keemun Concerto' is a hand-made, limited production 'Mao Feng' grade tea. It is a rare embodiment of this tea's wonderful potential.
LAPSANG SOUCHONG
Tea of the Month
Black tea from the Fujian province of China. Lapsang Souchong tea (also called Russian Caravan tea) has a famously smoky aroma and flavor. To create this, tea leaves are dried in bamboo baskets over pine fires, achieving a perfect balance of smoke and tea flavor.
MARGARET'S HOPE
Tea of the Month
A delicate astringent cup with the distinctive "Muscatel" character. Hints of currant create an almost wine-like taste. Black Darjeeling tea
PRINCE OF WALES

CHOCOLATE CHAI
Tea of the Month
We've taken one of the world's favorite indulgences - chocolate - and combined it with the exotic flavors and spices of Masala Chai to create the ultimate treat. Chocolate flavored Ceylon black tea blended with cardamom, ginger, cloves, cinnamon. Soothing spicy cocoa notes, zesty, warming quality and soft liquid chocolate texture. Very seamless combination. Make it extra rich by preparing with freshly-warmed milk.
MASALA CHI
Tea of the Month
To most Westerners, it is a little known fact that the word 'Chai' simply means 'tea' in Hindi. Therefore, all teas are technically chais. We offer a Masala Chai tea - premium Ceylon black tea with a unique blend of spices; cinnamon, cardamon, and ginger.
SPICED APPLE CHAI
Tea of the Month
Our Spiced Apple Chai features the timeless, comforting combination of apples and spice. A lively blend of black tea, classic spices from Indian Masala Chai and bright notes of crisp apple. Juicy and pleasantly sweet, like warm applesauce, with a clean, refreshing texture. A delight for the senses. We suggest two heaping teaspoons per 8 oz up, boiling water for 5 minutes, sugar, cream or soy milk if desired.
THAI CHAI
Tea of the Month
Creamy sweet coconut and playfully floral lemongrass highlight this succulent black tea chai blend. Let the aroma draw you in and you'll swear, you hear it beckoning to come closer, just take a sip.
